This is the place. The place where aspiring advertising copywriters and art directors learn their craft and build their "spec" portfolios, so they can be prepared to get a job at ad agencies large or small.

Here's the simple truth. Without a strong portfolio (or “book” of spec ad campaigns) to share with creative directors, you can’t get an entry-level job. The Portfolio Shop is the only school in North Carolina with the singular mission of helping students to build a competitive copywriter’s or art director’s advertising portfolio.

Who should take classes at The Portfolio Shop?

A variety of people. People with a creative bent who want to find out if advertising is for them. Maybe you majored in English or History or Art or Communications or Theater or Spanish or (Fill In The Blank), it really doesn't matter — what matters is that you suspect you'd like to make your living in a creative way.

People who know they want to be in advertising. Perhaps you’ve taken a few ad creative classes before, and have even created a few spec ads — but now you need professional direction and mentorship to make your portfolio job-worthy. All of The Portfolio Shop's workshops are led by advertising professionals, as you'll find at the graduate school programs in Atlanta, Richmond and elsewhere.
